Raiders in familiar territory at season’s end despite measured success

The first round of the professional football playoffs kicked off this weekend, and for the eighth consecutive year, the Oakland Raiders were nowhere to be found. In perhaps a symbol of a franchise fallen on hard times, the local Oakland bars lacked any noticeable presence from the generally boisterous fan base as well.

Raiders start fast, sputter out to lose second straight

The Oakland Raiders got off to an incredibly quick start on Sunday afternoon, scoring just 13 seconds into the game on Jacoby Ford’s 101-yard kickoff return, but were unable to overcome a well-balanced Miami offensive attack, and fell to the Dolphins, 33-17.

Raiders ruin homecoming for Oakland Tech’s Lynch

Marshawn Lynch, the often written and talked-about NFL player who graduated from Oakland Tech High School, made his hometown pro football debut during a trip to Oakland this weekend as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

He was fresh off a trade that sent him from the Buffalo Bills to the Seahawks. But the visit home didn’t go quite as he had expected.

Raiders switch quarterbacks, stave off Rams 16-14

It wasn’t a thing of beauty, but the Raiders added their names to the win column with the help of an unexpected member of the team, defeating the Rams Sunday afternoon in a closely-contested 16-14 clash.

‘Nation Celebration’ pumps hopeful Raiders fans

To the untrained eye, Friday evening’s Raider Nation Celebration in Frank H. Ogawa Plaza was just another glorified salt-and-pepper-colored pep rally for the local professional club, stringing longtime supporters along for what could be yet another disappointing season.
